HAYMARKET SQUARE, SCENE OF HAYMARKET RIOT, CHICAGO,
N°. 78. V. O. Hammon .Pub. Co., Chicago
The Monument seen in the foreground marks the spot of the Haymarket
Riots of May 4, 1886, in which several policemen were killed by dynamite bombs.
The Monument Commemorating the heroes of the tragedy has been removed
to Union Park. It is here in Haymarket Square that the truck gardeners come with
their wagonloads of garden vegetables, and during the early morning hours it is a
most interesting and animated scene.
